Additional Information

Neuse River Valley Model Railroad Club, Inc. is a non-profit, educational organization chartered under the General Statutes of the State of North Carolina. Our organization's
purpose as put forth in the preamble of our constitution is to (a) promote greater
fellowship between those persons interested in railroads, railroading, and modeling the
same; (b) provide opportunities for the interchange of information about railroads and
their practices; inform and educate the general public of the value of railroads and the hobby of model railroading; (d) promote constructive use of leisure time; (e) foster greater
camaraderie between father/mother/son/daughter through a common interest; (f) foster understanding between persons of different ages, ethnic backgrounds, and national origins;
(g) provide opportunities for development of leadership through active participation in organizational activities; and (h) provide young people an opportunity to learn values, respect for others' property, and high standards of craftsmanship.
In the mid-1970's, a group of model railroaders in the greater Raleigh area
informally organized and called themselves the Capital Area Model Railroad Club. This group met at members' homes to work on layouts or to view slide and film presentations
on various aspects of railroading. This practice is still carried on by sub-groups within the
club. In 1978, the Club started building and exhibiting a modular railroad at shopping
centers in the greater Raleigh area. Increased interest and membership were the result of several successful shows. By the early 1980's, it became apparent that the Club would have to formally organize in order to more effectively serve the needs of the area model
railroading community. By February 15, 1984, the Club had adopted a constitution, by-laws, and the name NEUSE RIVER VALLEY MODEL RAILROAD CLUB. Shortly thereafter the club obtained a charter and incorporation papers from the State of North
Carolina. Since that time, every year in November, in support of National Mode Railroad Month, we hold one of the largest model railroad shows in the state at the North Carolina
State Fairgrounds. To-date the club has held 17 such shows, with each being better and larger than the previous ones.
