Description
The layout is over 3000 square feet, making it one of the largest HO scale club layouts in southern New England.
The PROVIDENCE NORTHERN, is a freelanced Class 1 road set in the 1980's running from Providence, RI northward to St. Johnsbury, VT. The layout incorporates a double track main line and a unique short line, with switching roads integrated into the design. The railroad features a large main classification yard, a realistically sized seaport, a minimum mainline curve radius of 48 inches, and a large number of curves whose radii exceed 120 inches.
There are scenery areas dedicated to cities, small towns, and the wooded areas of New England. Such recognizable areas as Providence, St. Johnsbury, Whitefield, and Framingham are realistically simulated.
Schedule
The layout is open to the public on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from Noon to 5 p.m.
Admission/Fare
There is no admission charged during public club hours. Open house sessions (which feature a larger number of operating trains) may charge a nominal fee. See www.providencenorthern.com for open house and other event listings.
Locomotives/Rolling Stock
At any given time, there are dozens of motive power units and hundreds of pieces of rolling stock on the layout. Custom Providence Northern units, Class 1 Railroads, and Regional road names can be found.
